AIDAN MONKS CROWNED 2019 BAKER OF THE YEAR
This year’s Baking Industry Awards were once again a pure delight and honour to attend with a night full of very worthy winners. Having sponsored the Baker of the year category at the awards which are the highlight of the Baking Industry’s calendar for 6 years now, we never get tired of seeing just how much talent there is within the Baking world.
The Baker of the Year category is always a massive challenge to judge and we travel all over the country visiting bakeries of all sizes to get our shortlist of finalists, who this year were Aidan Monks of Lovingly Artisan, Jack Smylie Wild of Bara Menyn and Steven Winter of Bread Source, who together are a huge pool of bakery talent and it was both an honour and pleasure to have their company for the evening.
Our Winner of the night was the wonderful Aidan Monks and it was our great pleasure to give him his award alongside TV personality Ashley Roberts.
Ann Wells, Brook Foods Group Marketing Director, had the following to say: “This gets harder and harder year on year. As the overall standard of baking seems to be improving in the UK , our industry continues to grow in popularity as a food culture, so does the standard of bakers. This year the contestants came from many different types of bakery and the quality of goods produced was honestly excellent. Aidan stood out to us as Baker of the Year despite this exceptionally high overall standard, his controlled approach teamed with outstanding skills and dedication to perfection was admirable. We take sponsorship and judging this award extremely seriously, with the whole judging process taking up many hours of thought and deliberation, the title of Baker of the Year is a high accolade within the industry that stays with the winners throughout their careers, and it’s a real honour to play a part in this“.
