“Winning Baker of the Year overshadowed all my other awards”
Find out why past winners are suggesting you enter the 2017 competition Part 1.
The Baking Industry Awards recognise the most outstanding bakers in the country, covering products, innovation and staff and business development. The awards are culminated with the most prestigious category Baker of the Year, an honour that acknowledges the efforts of an individual within a baking business. We have been sponsoring this category for the past 3 years and have be totally bowled over by our winners. There aren’t many craft industries these days that boast personalities with so much passion and drive as baking. In 2014 we are spoilt with some fantastic entries, the overall winner, a lifelong baker who had in more recent times made the leap to open his own bakery, was outstanding. Mark Bennett, from Patisserie Mark Bennett in Poole, Dorset demonstrated a drive for improvement, the most outstanding products and an unmeasurable passion for the industry. Speaking with Mark three years on from his win he commented “Winning Baker of the Year 2014 was a personal achievement that overshadowed all my other awards, it was a huge honour to be recognised in this way by our industry, baking is my passion, it is not just a job, so it meant so much more to me. At the time my business was only two years old, so winning the award helped so much in promoting the business, which has gone from strength to strength. If anyone is thinking about entering, my advice would be not to think about it and just enter, if you don’t enter you will never know whether you have the credentials to win, I never thought I could do it, but how wrong I was!”
